Shopify brings commerce directly into ChatGPT conversations

Shopify announced an integration that enables shoppers to discover and purchase products from millions of Shopify merchants directly within ChatGPT. The company frames this as the next step in “agentic commerce,” meeting consumers where AI shopping conversations already happen. Shopify says real-time product data—pricing, inventory, images, and variants—will power recommendations, with brands like Glossier, Spanx, Vuori, Away, Stanley 1913, and Steve Madden cited as examples. Merchants stay the merchant of record, receive proper attribution and transparent fees, and can route buyers through Instant Checkout or their online store, with clear store branding in the chat. Rollout is coming “very very soon,” per CEO Tobi Lütke.
